Frank was written at the Snake Park in Danville, CA and was recorded at the outdoor classroom of Sonoma State University during "the week" I had in Santa Rosa to finish the album. I had no recording space that day so I got a full charge on my laptop and brought it to the outdoor classroom, and recorded pretty much every song I intended to be on the album acoustically with one usb mic. I did most of its mixing that same day in the SSU library and added some additional synthesizer. You can hear the wind clipping the mic throughout the song, bugs and birds chirping in the background, and a car starting towards the end. It ended up being better than the over-produced version.
lyrics
A man named Frank was lost he says, “I can’t pretend
that the world is whole and that I’m over things”
A man named Frank was lost so he moved to the hills
where the people are few and far from the holes in his heart
Fragments from a lonely year, driving away searching for all we can hear, coming out of the fog
And granite tops that chip and fade, a hazardous fan spins in peculiar ways, over the stove top
A man named Frank was lost he says, “I gotta get home
to the shelter I’ve grown and the silence of one”
A man named Frank was lost then he lost his mind,
he says it’s hard to find a way out from peace of mind
